How do I connect Wave DX to my computer?

Wave DX connects to your computer through an audio interface, such as Wave XLR. Connect Wave DX to the interface using a standard 3-pin XLR cable, then connect the interface to your computer. The mic does not connect directly via USB.

What cables do I need?

You’ll need a standard 3-pin XLR cable to connect the mic to your audio interface, mixer, or preamp. An XLR cable is not included in the box.

Does it work with any audio interface?

Yes. Wave DX works with any compatible XLR audio interface, mixer, or preamp. It does not require Wave XLR or other Elgato hardware.

Does it work with Wave Link?

Yes. Wave DX can be used with Wave Link for mixing, routing, and effects. Since Wave DX connects through an audio interface, Wave Link will show the interface as the input, not the microphone itself.

Does it require phantom power?

No. Wave DX is a dynamic microphone, so it does not require phantom power. If your audio interface has a 48V phantom power setting, you can leave it turned off.

How much gain should I use?

For best results, start with 45 dB of gain, then fine-tune as needed. Increase the gain if your voice is too quiet, or lower it if your audio sounds distorted or clips.

Will it fit my mic arm or stand?

Wave DX uses a standard 5/8" mount and includes 3/8" and 1/4" thread adapters, making it compatible with virtually any standard mic arm or stand.

Which end of the mic should I speak into?

Speak into the top of the mic, not the side. Wave DX is a top-address microphone, which means it captures your voice from the end of the grille.

How close should I be to the microphone?

For the best sound, keep Wave DX about 3–5 inches (8–12 cm) from your mouth. Dynamic microphones work best up close, helping your voice sound fuller and clearer while reducing background noise.

How well does it handle background noise?

As a dynamic microphone, Wave DX is good at limiting room sound and background noise compared with many condenser microphones. This makes it a strong choice for streaming, podcasting, and recording in shared or less-than-perfect spaces.

Do I need a booster or lifter?

No. Wave DX has a high enough output to work with any standard XLR audio interface without a booster or lifter.

What is the difference between Wave DX and Wave:3?

Wave DX is a dynamic XLR microphone that connects through an audio interface and naturally rejects more background noise. Wave:3 is a USB condenser microphone that plugs directly into your computer for a simpler setup, but picks up more room sound.
