OBS Studio 32.1.0 Update: New Audio Mixer, WebRTC Simulcast, and More

Last updated:

OBS Studio 32.1.0 is now available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. This one is heavier on fixes and refinements than on new features, such as the Audio Mixer, which has been rebuilt, undo/redo now works for scene items, and several platform-wide bugs have been resolved.

Key Highlights

  • New Audio Mixer: The Audio Mixer has been fully rebuilt. Muted sources now show the correct color, the monitoring state icon updates properly, sources with disabled audio no longer appear in the mixer, and buttons and icons stay visible regardless of your font size or theme.
  • WebRTC Simulcast: OBS can now send multiple quality levels over a single WebRTC track. Viewers on slower connections get a better experience automatically, without any extra configuration on your end.
  • Undo/Redo for Scene Items: A long-standing gap is finally filled. You can now undo changes to scale filtering, blending mode, blending method, deinterlacing mode, and deinterlacing field order on any scene source.

Changes That Matter

  • Copying a Scene Item Copies Everything: When you duplicate a source, all of its settings are copied along with it. Scale filtering, blending mode, crop values, and more.
  • Cleaner Source Names: The word "Source" has been stripped from source type names across the UI. Small change, noticeably tidier.
  • Plugin Manager Improvement: You can now enable or disable plugins that are missing from disk, rather than having OBS silently try to load them on startup.
  • Edit Transform Dialog Updated: The panel for precisely positioning and scaling sources has been refreshed.

Technical Fixes

  • Audio Mixer Stability: Sources with disabled audio no longer show up in the mixer. Monitoring state, mute colors, and icons now display correctly across different themes and font sizes.
  • HDR Video Playback: Media Source no longer renders HDR content darker than it should be.
  • NVIDIA Blur and Background Blur: An issue where blur effects could appear banded or splotchy has been fixed. If your virtual background or blur looked off, this should resolve it.
  • Black Recording Thumbnails: Some recordings were generating black preview thumbnails instead of an actual frame. That's now fixed.
  • macOS Screen Capture: OBS was automatically selecting a capture target on macOS without the user choosing one. It no longer does that.
  • Transitions Becoming Locked: An issue that could cause transitions to stop working entirely has been resolved.
  • Profile and Video Settings Blocked: A bug that could prevent OBS from letting you change profiles or video settings has been fixed.
  • Linux Crash on Profile Change or Shutdown: A crash that occurred on Linux when switching profiles or closing OBS has been addressed.
  • Crash on Startup Minimized (Windows): A crash that happened when launching OBS directly to the system tray has been resolved.
  • Projector Decimal Resolutions: Projector resolution values no longer display with unnecessary decimal places.
  • Chapter Marker Timing: Incorrect chapter marker timestamps when using file splitting have been fixed.

Why This Update Matters

The Audio Mixer rebuild resolves a long list of accumulated issues around mute colors, missing icons, and disabled sources appearing where they shouldn't. Undo/redo for scene items fills a genuine gap in the editing workflow, and WebRTC Simulcast improves the viewing experience for audiences on slower connections without any extra setup.
