Voice Tune: What it is and How to Use It

Senast uppdaterad:

Wave FX Processor brings professional audio processing to Wave hardware. Voice Tune is one of the onboard DSP effects that gives your voice broadcast-style presence with a single control.

If your recordings sound thin or need polish, Voice Tune combines compression and harmonic saturation to close that gap.

How Voice Tune works

Voice Tune is inspired by how analog tape machines shape audio. Tape naturally compresses louder parts of a signal and introduces subtle harmonic distortion. These characteristics give classic recordings their density and character.

Voice Tune recreates this behavior using a machine-learned algorithm. The model was trained by an experienced recording engineer from LEWITT Audio, Elgato's partner for Wave FX Processor development. It analyzes your input signal in real time and dynamically adjusts compression and harmonic saturation based on where you set the control.

At lower settings, Voice Tune adds subtle polish. Higher settings push toward more pronounced, broadcast-style character. Because the algorithm adapts to your voice as you speak, it responds naturally rather than applying a fixed processing curve.

Where Voice Tune sits in the signal chain

Voice Tune runs on Wave FX Processor alongside other onboard DSP effects. These effects are applied in a fixed order.

On Wave:3 MK.2, Wave XLR MK.2, and XLR Dock MK.2 (5 effects):

  • Low-Cut Filter
  • Expander
  • Voice Tune
  • Compressor
  • Equalizer

On Wave XLR Pro (7 effects):

  • Low-Cut Filter
  • Expander
  • Voice Tune
  • Compressor
  • Equalizer
  • Ducking
  • Mix Maximizer

By the time your signal reaches Voice Tune, the Low-Cut Filter has already removed low-frequency rumble, and the Expander has reduced background noise. Voice Tune then shapes the cleaned-up signal, and you still have the Equalizer available afterward if you need to adjust specific frequencies.

Because all of this runs on the hardware itself, there is zero added latency. You hear the processed result in your headphones in real time.

Pro Tip: Voice Tune already includes compression, so it can replace your everyday Compressor for most users.

Adjusting Voice Tune in Wave Link

Wave Link gives you full control over Voice Tune and all onboard DSP effects. Open Wave Link, select your microphone or interface from the left panel, then go to the Effects tab. Enable Voice Tune and use the slider to set intensity from 0 to 100%.

All Wave devices with Wave FX Processor run the same Voice Tune algorithm. Your settings sync between Wave Link and your device's onboard controls, so adjustments made in either place are reflected everywhere.

Adjusting Voice Tune on Your Device

You can also control Voice Tune directly from your hardware without opening Wave Link.

On Wave:3 MK.2: Push the multifunction dial to cycle through the available parameters. When the LED ring indicates Voice Tune, turn the dial to adjust the level directly. The LED ring displays a color gradient from orange (subtle settings) to red (maximum intensity), giving you visual feedback as you adjust.

On Wave XLR MK.2: Push the control dial to cycle to Voice Tune, then turn it to adjust the level.

On XLR Dock MK.2: XLR Dock MK.2 integrates with Stream Deck +, so you control Voice Tune through Stream Deck's dials and LCD keys. This lets you see parameter values and make adjustments without switching to Wave Link.

On Wave XLR Pro: Wave XLR Pro has no physical controls on the device. All Voice Tune adjustments are made through Wave Link. You can optionally pair it with Stream Deck for hands-on control over Voice Tune and all eight onboard DSP effects.

If you use Auto Gain Wizard, Voice Tune is one of the effects that gets initialized during calibration based on your voice characteristics. You can still adjust the Voice Tune level manually afterward in Wave Link or on your device.

Which Devices Support Voice Tune

Voice Tune is available on all Wave devices with Wave FX Processor:

  • Wave XLR Pro
  • Wave XLR MK.2
  • XLR Dock MK.2
  • Wave:3 MK.2

All four devices use the same Voice Tune algorithm. Your settings are managed in Wave Link and processed through the hardware in real time.
