Requirements

What you need

  • Hollow Knight: Silksong
  • Capture card (such as Elgato 4K S, 4K X, or 4K Pro)
  • Two HDMI cables
  • A computer with Elgato Studio or OBS Studio, or an iPad with Elgato Capture app

Console setup notes

  • Switch | Switch 2: Must be docked for capture.
  • PS5: Disable HDCP in Settings > System > HDMI.
  • Xbox Series X|S: Ready to go, no extra steps required.

Step 1: Connect your setup

  1. Connect one HDMI cable from the console to the HDMI In on your capture card.
  2. Connect another HDMI cable from the HDMI Out on the capture card to your TV or monitor.
  3. Connect your capture card to your computer using the included USB cable (for 4K X, HD60 X, or Game Capture Neo). If you’re using 4K Pro, install it in a PCIe slot.
  4. Finally, power on your console.

Step 2: Launch your software

  • Elgato Studio: Works out of the box with your capture card. It automatically detects your console and provides passthrough up to 4K60 HDR. Recordings are saved in SDR.
  • OBS Studio: Add your capture card as a source.

Step 3: Set resolution and frame rate

Elgato Studio

  • Automatically detects resolution and frame rate. Supports passthrough up to 4K60 HDR, with recordings saved in SDR.

OBS Studio

  • Go to Settings > Video and match your output resolution (e.g., 3840x2160).
  • Set FPS to 60.
  • Adjust capture source properties to Custom if needed.
  • Disable HDR in console settings or use tone mapping in OBS if colors look off.

Step 4: Start recording or streaming

  • Click Record in Elgato Studio or Start Streaming in OBS Studio.
