Soft light is great for looking natural on camera. But sometimes you do not want light to spread everywhere. You may want to brighten your face while keeping your background darker, light a product without washing out the whole scene, or create a more focused look for portraits and close-ups. Focus Grid helps deal with that problem.
Focus Grid is an optional magnetic accessory for Key Light Air MK.2. It attaches to the front of the light and narrows the light's spread, giving you more control over spill and helping you shape a more intentional image.
In lighting, “spill” means light that falls outside the area you meant to illuminate. Without a grid, a soft panel spreads light broadly. That is useful for general desk lighting, video calls, and everyday camera use. With Focus Grid attached, that spread becomes narrower and more controlled. The result is still soft, but more focused.
Key Light Air MK.2 already gives you soft, diffused light. Its panel acts as a built-in light diffuser, spreading light evenly to reduce harsh shadows and create a natural look on camera.
Focus Grid is for when you want more precision. It narrows where that diffused light goes, so you can light your subject without brightening as much of the surrounding space.
Use Focus Grid when you want to:
This is especially useful in desk setups where everything is close together. A monitor, wall, microphone, shelf, and background may all sit within a few feet of your light. Focus Grid helps keep the light focused on the subject rather than spreading across nearby surfaces.
Focus Grid attaches magnetically to the front of Elgato's Key Light Air MK.2, so you can add or remove it quickly depending on the shot.
Focus Grid is sold separately. It is not required to use Key Light Air MK.2, but it gives you another way to control how your lighting looks on camera.
Focus Grid is for moments when brightness alone is not enough. Narrowing the spread of the Key Light Air MK.2 helps you control the scene, reduce spill, and create a more focused image.
If you already have your light positioned well and want more control over the final look, Focus Grid is a simple way to shape your lighting without changing your whole setup.
