Want your Stream Deck to feel more personal? Set a custom background across your keys, style the touch strip on Stream Deck + and Stream Deck + XL, and add a screensaver for when your device is idle.
Add a background to your Stream Deck keys
On Stream Deck devices, you can set a background for all of your keys by uploading an image.
This creates one larger background that sits behind your key layout, giving your profile a more unified look. You can use this to match your setup, brand colors, stream theme, or desktop aesthetic.
To add a key background:
1. Open Stream Deck app.
2. Select the profile or page you want to customize.
3. Right-click any key, then select Set from file....
4. Upload your image file.
5. Adjust the image as needed.
Once applied, the image will appear across the key area for that page.
Add a background to Stream Deck + and Stream Deck + XL
Stream Deck + and Stream Deck + XL offer additional customization with LCD keys and a touch strip with dials.
On Stream Deck + and Stream Deck + XL, you can customize:
- The overall key background
- The touch strip background
- The background for a specific dial action
Overall key background
The key background works the same way as other Stream Deck devices.
- Open Stream Deck app.
- Select the profile or page you want to customize.
- Right-click the key area, then select Set from file....
- Upload your image and adjust as needed.
You can also drag and drop an image directly onto a key in the Property Inspector to set its background.
Touch strip background
For the touch strip, you can right-click to either upload your own image or choose from the background library. This lets you style the touch strip separately from your keys.
Background for a specific dial action
You can also customize the background for a specific dial action, which is useful if you want each dial control to have its own visual style.
Add a screensaver
Stream Deck also supports screensavers. This is separate from your profile backgrounds.
The screensaver will appear when:
- The Stream Deck app is running, and the computer is locked.
- When the Stream Deck is set to Sleep. This can happen two ways:
- Under Settings, select General. Look for Sleep After and select a timer.
- Under Stream Deck actions, add Sleep to a key. If you have multiple devices, you can choose which Stream Deck or put all of them to sleep.
Screensavers can use an image or GIF, depending on your Stream Deck model:

To set a screensaver
1. Open Stream Deck app.
2. Click the Settings icon.
3. Go to the Devices tab.
4. Select Set Screensaver
5. Drag and drop an image or GIF into the preview window, or choose from your files. On supported models, uploading a GIF gives you the Set Animation option instead of the Set Image option.
Backgrounds vs. screensavers
A background changes how your Stream Deck looks while you are using a profile.
A screensaver changes how your Stream Deck looks when your computer is locked, asleep, or idle.
If you want to customize your everyday layout, start with a background. If you want your Stream Deck to look good when you step away, add a screensaver too.
