OBS Studio 32.0 Update – Plugin Manager, Audio Fixes, and More

Last updated:

OBS Studio, the go-to software for livestreaming and recording, has released version 32.0. This update for Windows, macOS, and Linux brings fresh features, updated defaults, and technical improvements that creators will notice in everyday use.

Heads up, we also released Stream Deck 7.0.1, adding full compatibility with OBS Studio 32.

Key Highlights

  • Plugin Manager: View installed plugins and enable/disable them right inside OBS Studio.
  • Crash Log Uploads: On Windows and macOS, you can opt in to automatically send crash logs. This helps the OBS team diagnose issues faster.
  • NVIDIA RTX Updates: Noise suppression now detects voice activity more accurately. There’s also a new option to remove chairs in background removal—handy for a cleaner virtual backdrop.
  • Apple Silicon Support: An experimental Metal renderer improves performance on Apple Silicon Macs.
  • Hybrid MOV Format: A new default recording format that combines compatibility (H.264/HEVC + PCM audio) with professional features like ProRes on macOS.

Changes That Matter

  • Default Bitrate Doubled: Streaming presets now use 6000 Kbps instead of 2500 Kbps. This change more closely matches platform standards (like Twitch and YouTube) and improves quality out of the box.
  • Better Audio Handling: OBS now avoids duplicating audio when monitoring sources, fixing echo and doubling issues that might be confusing.
  • Scene/Group Audio Fixes: Improved logic prevents sound from accidentally stacking when using nested scenes.
  • More Accurate Chapter Markers: Helpful for long recordings, especially when uploading to YouTube.

Technical Fixes

  • SRT Streaming Stability: Several crashes with SRT (a professional streaming protocol) have been fixed.
  • AMD Encoder Improvements: Better default settings for AMD GPUs mean higher quality streams without manual tweaking.
  • Mac UI Polishing: Small usability fixes, like cursor visibility in edit fields.
  • Hybrid MP4/MOV Out of Beta: Now the default format—more stable, widely supported, and resistant to corruption compared to plain MP4.

Why This Update Matters

OBS Studio 32.0 smooths out the rough edges. For most creators, the jump in default bitrate, plugin manager, and better audio handling will be immediately noticeable. For power users, the new recording formats and Apple Silicon renderer open the door to more professional workflows.
