What is an Action Wheel for Stream Deck?

Stream Deck gives you more ways to control your setup. An Action Wheel lets you use Stream Deck dials to trigger multiple actions.

Instead of placing actions across several keys, you can group them into a wheel and access them from a single dial. Rotate the dial or tap the touch strip to move the wheel, then press the dial or tap on the action you want to run.

Think of it like a compact menu for your dial. It gives you quick access to multiple actions without taking up extra keys on your Stream Deck + layout.

To use Action Wheel, you need:

• Stream Deck 6.7 or newer
• A Stream Deck with dials, such as: Stream Deck +, GALLEON 100 SD, or Stream Deck + XL

If you do not see the Action Wheel in the Stream Deck app, download the most up-to-date version here.

1. Open Stream Deck app.

2. There are two ways to create an Action Wheel:

• First way is to right-click on an empty dial and select Create Action Wheel

• Or you can find Action Wheel from the action list on the right: click on the Dials tab, find Action Wheel in the Stream Deck section, and drag it into a dial.

3. When you create an Action Wheel, the editor will pop up automatically. To edit in the future, double-click on the Action Wheel dial.

4. Drag the actions you want into the wheel.

Once set up, rotate the dial or tap the actions on the side to cycle through them, and press the dial or tap the action to access it.

Action Wheel is designed for actions that are normally used on Stream Deck keys.

That means you can use it for things like:

• Opening apps
• Open websites
• Sending hotkeys
• Playing Sound effects
• Triggering plugin actions
• And more

The exact options depend on which plugins and integrations you have installed.

Create an Action Wheel for actions you use occasionally during a stream. You could include chat messages, sound effects, clip markers, etc.

This keeps your main keys free for your most important live controls. Here are some streaming plugins to download to get you started.

Use an Action Wheel for meeting actions like opening your calendar, launching your video call app, muting audio, opening notes, or setting your status.

If you edit video, photos, music, or graphics, an Action Wheel can hold shortcuts you use occasionally. For example, you could add export commands, project folders, reference links, or app-specific hotkeys.

Action Wheel can also be useful for sound effects. Place a few related sounds in one wheel so you can trigger them from the dial area without filling your main key layout.

Use an Action Wheel as a small launcher for apps, websites, folders, or tools you open often.

Action Wheel and Dial Stack both help one dial do more, but they are used for different kinds of controls.

A dial task groups multiple dial actions together. It is best for controls you adjust by turning a dial, such as volume, brightness, or camera settings.

An Action Wheel groups multiple key actions together. It is best for actions you trigger by tapping a key, like opening an app, switching scenes, playing a sound, or running a hotkey.

Action Wheel is easiest to use when the actions belong together. For example, keep meeting actions in one wheel, sound effects in another, and streaming utilities in another.

If you need an action constantly, it may still deserve its own key. Action Wheel works best for secondary actions that are useful but do not need to be visible all the time.

Adding too many actions can make the wheel harder to navigate. If it starts feeling crowded, create a second Action Wheel or move your most important actions back to regular keys.
